The Arts
Sino Donato
I have always had a love of the arts and always been engaged with the arts throughout my life. I have what I consider a keen aesthetic and truly believe that we artistically craft our life and what is around us, day-by-day and choice-by-choice. Art, though, has played a central role in my life particularly because I was able to travel the world in my job as a flight attendant with United Airlines. Thus, I have spent my adulthood traveling to the great museums of the world. I have gone to opera houses in many countries and listened to the greatest operas of all times. And I have been to the great dance stages, as well, relishing in the leaps and bounds of those who use their bodies as their instruments. Art, in all forms, is something I live and breath.
One of the things in my life that I am most proud of is introducing my daughter to the arts and instilling in her a love of the visual and performing arts as well. At eleven years of age, she definitely identifies as an artist and is one of the only children I know to have two pieces of art curated into national museum collections. Her school has a rich arts program and she has been very lucky to have been mentored by important local Long Beach artists. She draws, paints, works with glass and clay, dances, sings, and performs. For her, art has always been present. And for me, a father who thrills to art, I revel in watching her skills and confidence grow.

One of the major volunteer opportunities I do in this regard is to co-chair the Spring Arts Festival with another parent at Westerly School of Long Beach. This is Westerly’s most beloved event and it takes an enormous amount of planning and execution for it to happen. I’ve co-chaired the Arts Committee for the last four years.
I support local artists in all ways and do my best to be a participant in art experiences throughout the city, the region, and the world.
